Creamed Swiss Chard

Swiss chard is a member of a variety of green leaf vegetables that is prominent in Mediterranean cuisine. It has large leaves that are either red or green in color. Swiss chard has been cultivated for hundreds of years and is closely related to beetroots and sea beets. Swiss chard is widely used for a variety of dishes and are typically sautéed or eaten raw. Some of these benefits include blood sugar regulation, improve bone health, and prevention of certain types of cancer. For this recipe we will using Swiss chard as the main ingredient for a healthy vegetarian dish.



500 grams Swiss chard, coarsely chopped

¼ stick butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 ½ cup fresh milk

1 shallot, finely chopped

salt to taste

pepper to taste



In a pan or skillet, melt the butter over high heat then fry the shallots for 1-2 minutes. Add milk and flour, stirring constantly. Gradually put in the chard and cook for another five minutes. Season with salt and pepper then serve.
