Daylily Salad

For this recipe we will be using daylily flowers to create a refreshing and healthy salad. One of the interesting characteristics of this flower is that they usually last for just one day, flowering in the early morning, only to be replaced at night by a new flower. Daylily flowers are known to have many health benefits, including the treatment of hemorrhoids, insomnia, as well as detoxifying the body. The flowers are rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrients. They have been used in traditional folk medicine to cure poison and is said to prevent certain types of cancer.



500 grams daylily flowers, washed and sliced
½ head lettuce, shredded
1 cucumber, diced
1 large tomato, diced
olive oil as needed
salt to taste
pepper to taste
¼ cup fresh lemon juice


Place the daylily flowers, cucumber, and tomato in a bowl then season with salt and pepper. Toss until the ingredients are well blended.
In a separate bowl, mix 2 tablespoons olive oil and lemon juice, and then season with salt and pepper to make the vinaigrette.
Drizzle the vinaigrette on top of the salad then serve. You may also use a different salad dressing or vinaigrette if preferred.
