Strawberry Sorrel Smoothie

Sorrel is an herb that that is cultivated as a green leaf vegetable. It has a distinctive tangy flavor that is sometimes described as having a sharp quality. There are different varieties of sorrel, depending on where they grow, but all types are known to contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Sorrel also helps improve the digestive system and used to treat hypertension due to a high dietary fiber content. It is also known to prevent certain types of cancer as well as boosting the immune system. For this recipe, we will be pairing strawberries with sorrel to make a very healthy and refreshing smoothie.



2 cups freshly picked sorrel
1 whole lemon for juicing
1 avocado, pitted and scraped
4 strawberries
1 cup milk
½ cup water
Wash the sorrel thoroughly. Shred them by hand, but be sure to use the stems along with the leaves. Use a scraper to get the avocado meat. Place the sorrel, avocado meat, strawberries, lemon juice, and milk in a high speed blender or food processor. Pulsate until the mixture becomes frothy and smooth. Add sugar or honey if desired. Serve in a tall glass with plenty of ice.
